This bright red Olympus XA3 is a compact and small 35mm film camera in a clamshell design. Even though it is made in metal in a really sturdy design, it's still lightweight with its 225g. The lens will be protected by the clamshell cover and with the cover closed, the camera is completely turned off, which makes it extraordinary when it comes to battery life.
The Olympus XA3 was introduced in 1985. This is the third version in the series and the main improvements from the XA1/XA2 is the upgraded ISO selection, up to 1600 from 800. Also re-introduced is the backlight switch, which the XA2 did not have.
The lens is a sharp Olympus Zuiko 35mm f/3.5. It has a unique design, used by Olympus historically to allow them to maintain small compact camera sizes.
On the side of the camera is the attachment flash unit (Olympus A11), which can be removed for a truly pocketable camera.
The camera operates quickly and Shutter speed is automatically selected by the camera based on the exposure metering.
This series of cameras were the predecessors to the popular Olympus mju series which later replaced the XA-series.
Batteries used are 2xLR44 (widely available) for the camera body and 1xAA (widely available) for the flash.
